In the double world champions’ first match since winning the 2023 Rugby World Cup, a youthful Springbok side kicked off the 2024 season with a big win against Wales at Twickenham.
Four up-and-coming stars – flyhalves Jordan Hendrikse and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, loose forward Ben-Jason Dixon and wing Edwill van der Merwe – made their debuts when the Springboks gutted Wales to earn a 41-13 win.
Hendrikse, who started at flyhalf, kicked two conversions and a penalty before being replaced by Feinberg-Mngomezulu in the second half, with the DHL Stormers playmaker announcing his arrival to Test rugby with a 50-metre penalty. Van der Merwe rounded off the scoring with a well-taken try.
The #Springboks scored some great tries in 2024 – as we look look back on a wonderful year for the men in green and gold, let’s start with this stunner from Edwill vd Merwe, on debut in London #ForeverGreenForeverGold #2024recap pic.twitter.com/RTvNTxFDtU
