Veteran prop James Slipper is on the brink of history and his coach believes it’s a moment that defines the man as much as the milestone.
The 36-year-old will run out for the Brumbies against the Chiefs on Friday, where he is set to become the most-capped player in Super Rugby history with his 203rd appearance.
That will see him surpass the long-standing record of 202 matches held by Wyatt Crockett – a mark that has stood since 2017. Crockett is even expected to be in Canberra to witness the moment.

Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham paid glowing tribute to his front-row stalwart.
“He just keeps going,” Larkham said.
“It’s a special achievement for anyone to get to 100, to get 150, to get to 200, and now to have the record in Super Rugby.
“He is a pretty special human and offers a lot to the Brumbies both on the field and off the field. One of the best leaders that you will find in the game and we’re lucky to have him.”
Slipper’s journey began with the Reds in 2010 before he made the move to the Brumbies in 2019 – a switch that has helped cement his legacy in the competition.
He bowed out of Test rugby last year after 151 appearances for the Wallabies, but the fire still burns at franchise level.
“It feels like it’s been brewing for a while,” Slipper said.
“I’m just excited to get out there and get the game under way.”
And he may not be done yet.
“In the background I’ve thought about it. I think physically I can keep going,” he added, hinting at a possible run through to 2027.
The milestone clash comes at a crucial time for the Brumbies, who have slipped after three straight wins, losing their last two outings. The Chiefs, meanwhile, return from a bye having won three of their four matches this season.
