Neethling Fouché has opened up about his seven-month-old son Pelser’s remarkable recovery after being diagnosed with a severe form of infantile epilepsy.
Last month, the Stormers and Springbok prop turned to Instagram to ask his followers to pray for a miracle after doctors said Pelser wasn’t responding to treatment and faced a bleak prognosis.
“As many of you know, our son, Pelser, has been diagnosed with infantile spasms. This is a dangerous, rare type of epilepsy among infants,” Fouché wrote at the time.
“Last night, our doctor shared the bad news with us that Pelser is not responding to his medication. She painted a dark picture of the long-term outlook if we cannot stop his epilepsy. We have now been in the hospital for three weeks and are utterly exhausted.
“We come from a very desperate and dark place to ask for prayer. We are praying specifically for a breakthrough – a miracle!
“We hold on to the verse the Lord gave us: ‘You have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox; fine oils have been poured on me.’ (Psalms 92:10 NIV).”
Fouché said that after receiving prayer at Hillsong Church in Stellenbosch, Pelser was “touched by the Holy Spirit” and has since been seizure-free, with doctors confirming his full recovery.
“We’re trying to turn this miracle into a story, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.
“We will never be the same again. Nothing will ever be the same again. Thank you, Lord! Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
Meanwhile, Fouché is recovering from a broken arm sustained during a recent Stormers match and will be sidelined for a while.
“Will be cheering on the @dhlstormers boys from the side for a while. Thanks for all the messages of love and support,” he added on Instagram.
