Touchline Pours Cold Water On Claims That The Qwellers Have Fallen Off. In a firm show of support, Touchline has poured cold water on claims that The Qwellers are “falling off,” arguing that the fast-rising collective is still in its early climb and already energising South African hip hop.

Speaking on Slikour On Life, the Tembisa-born rapper kept it plain: “What can I even say to that man? The guys have pretty much been in the game for 2 years. It’s too early to call a person to fall off.”
Touchline praised the group’s pace and patience, noting that artists need time and space to build. “Everybody needs time to do their thing, to draw. I think the guys are on a good trajectory. I only got positive things to say about the guys.” He credited The Qwellers with sparking new excitement among younger fans who see themselves in the crew’s story. “They’ve kinda revived this sport of ours. They have given the young people more vigour, more confidence, because they relate to them.”
The rapper’s endorsement was personal, too. He recalled an early encounter that hinted at what was coming. “Two of the Qwellers freestyled for me when I was shooting a movie. They were on set, and they came and they freestyled for me, and I knew these guys were special. I didn’t know they were part of The Qwellers. But I remember thinking that’s some of the best stuff I’ve ever heard.”
Since then, The Qwellers have stepped into their own lane, from growing a loyal base to shaping conversation with their slang, cadence, and community-first ethos. Touchline sees that cultural footprint as proof of momentum rather than a slowdown. “To see how far you guys have come, doing your own festivals and influencing the culture with your lingo, with your style, bafethu siyabonga and continue doing what you’re doing.”
With co-signs like this and a track record of building from the ground up, The Qwellers’ story reads less like a fall and more like a foundation. Touchline’s message doubles as a reminder to the scene: let artists breathe, let movements mature, and judge trajectories by the long arc, not the week-to-week noise.
