Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.
The announcement was made by the Osun State Government on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, as part of the state’s renewed effort to revitalise its sports sector and empower young people through sports development.
According to the statement, Davido’s appointment aims to mobilise private and public sector support for sports financing, with a focus on upgrading facilities and expanding opportunities for youth participation across the state. The government said the decision reflects Governor Ademola Adeleke’s broader commitment to modernising sports infrastructure and fostering community engagement through athletics.
Confirming the appointment of Davido as Chairman of the Sports Trust Fund, the Deputy Governor of Osun State, Kola Adewusi, who also serves as the Commissioner for Sports, revealed that Davido enthusiastically accepted the offer. Adewusi noted that the singer’s involvement is expected to attract both local and international investment into the state’s sports programmes.
“Davido’s appointment is a strategic step. His influence and passion will help attract funds that will significantly boost sports growth in Osun,” Adewusi said.
He further disclosed that the state is finalising plans to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the central body for sports administration and policy implementation. Additionally, he confirmed that the ongoing renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium is nearing completion and will meet Olympic standards once finished.
The Osun State Government reaffirmed its commitment to making sports a key driver of youth empowerment, talent discovery, and community development, an agenda it says will benefit greatly from Davido’s leadership and global reach.
