Learners at Erasmus Monareng Secondary School in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg, have a new reason to smile, after Hyundai Automotive Leading Brand in South Africa, officially donated a fully equipped library to the school. The hand-over ceremony was at school’s ICT Hall room, on 05 Wednesday, November 2025.

The library aims to strengthen reading, writing, and digital skills among Learners, many of whom have faced challenges in home languages and mathematics. With access to the new technology, and improved learning materials, the school believes academic performance will improve and educators will find teaching easier.

The project was made possible through the support of:

  • Hyundai Automotive Leading Brand in South
  • DP World
  • Motus Community Trust, who partnered to uplift education in the community.

Speaking at the event, Hyundai Automotive CEO, Mr. Stanley Anderson said, Education remains the most powerful tool to develop communities. “Vehicles can move people from one place to another, but education moves entire communities forward, it builds futures, opens doors and plants seeds that grow into generations of empowered individuals. Education is the legacy we want to leave in this community of Vosloorus“.

As Acting Principal Mr. Mbongiseni Hadebe welcomed the donation, noting that the school continue to struggle with infrastructure challenges. “Our school faces serious infrastructure challenges but despite this, our educators remans dedicated and continue to give their best. The library will enhance the offering to learn. The school is recognised as a fully ICT meaning that most of our classrooms are equipped with smart-boards and teachers use both digital tools and hard copies of textbooks to enhance Learning. Over the years, we have noticed that many Learners, especially in languages, struggled with reading and writing. Some couldn’t read their own work, which also affected their performance across different subjects”.

The campaign ended with a symbolic Blue- Ribbon cutting by Mr. Anderson and Mr. Hadebe, officially opening the library and marking a new chapter of learning for the learners of Erasmus Monareng Secondary School.
