Barcelona set to make a transfer move for one of Africa’s biggest strikers

Barcelona are already making plans for the 2026 transfer window as reports have now confirmed that the club has their eyes on one of Africa’s biggest strikers.

Barcelona are preparing a potential summer move for Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy, who is viewed as one of the biggest strikers out of Africa, as they continue planning for the long-term replacement of Robert Lewandowski.

The Catalan club are closely monitoring the 29-year-old, who has emerged as one of Europe’s most efficient goal scorers following his explosive spells with Stuttgart and Dortmund. With Lewandowski entering the final phase of his career, Barcelona see Guirassy as a realistic and high-impact option to lead their next attacking era.

Guirassy’s contract situation at Dortmund has made him one of the most attractive forwards on the market. Although his deal runs until 2028, it includes a release clause that decreases each year. The €75 million clause available last summer was not activated, and a reduced figure is expected to come into effect next summer, positioning several elite clubs to make moves.

Barcelona are among a long list of clubs capable of triggering the clause, alongside Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. However, sources in Germany suggest Barcelona have shown particularly strong interest as they actively work on succession planning in their attack.

While Guirassy has ruled out a January exit, internal expectations at Dortmund point towards a departure at the end of the season. Bild report that the club privately believe he will seek a new challenge.

There is also interest from outside Europe, with Guirassy’s brother and agent reportedly exploring potential approaches from Saudi Arabian clubs. Those options may remain secondary for now, as the striker appears focused on competing at the highest European level.

Former Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn recently gave his view on the situation, stating that it is widely understood that Guirassy is preparing for his next step and has no reason to leave mid-season.

For Barcelona, the opportunity to secure one of Africa’s most lethal strikers at a reduced price is seen as a rare market opening. With financial constraints still shaping their transfer strategy, a clause-based deal for a proven goalscorer like Guirassy could represent both value and ambition heading into the summer window.
