The 30-year-old musician, born Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, appeared before Magistrate Godfrey Netshiozwi on Wednesday, where the court ruled that he failed to prove the existence of exceptional circumstances required for bail.

In handing down the decision, the magistrate pointed to Chauke’s alleged repeated brushes with the law, including claims that some offences were committed while he was already out on bail. “The conduct and the personality of the accused compelled the court to invoke these provisions,” Netshiozwi said, adding that the artist should take time to reflect on his actions if he hopes to preserve his career. Chauke is expected back in court on 18 February 2026.

The ruling brings to a close a tense and closely watched bail hearing that stretched over several weeks. Chauke faces nine charges linked to an alleged shooting incident in Ladanna, Polokwane, on 19 October 2025. According to the state, the matter began as a road rage dispute before escalating, with allegations that shots were fired at individuals who had approached the artist’s vehicle, resulting in injuries.

During testimony, investigating officer Warrant Officer Phaladi Makola detailed what the state described as a troubling history, including prior convictions, pending attempted murder cases, and allegations of witness intimidation. The prosecution further argued that Chauke posed both a flight risk and a threat to public safety, especially in light of claims that he continued offending while already on bail for a separate assault case.

The defence pushed back hard, accusing prosecutors of relying on what they called “back-door” evidence. They stressed Chauke’s role as a provider for his family and highlighted the financial fallout of his detention, with high-paying festive season bookings reportedly being cancelled and promoters facing refunds worth significant sums.
