Former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has left his role as the head coach of Fernabache with immediate effect.
The Turkish club confirmed the news of Jose Mourinho’s exit on its social media accounts on Friday, August 29, 2025. The decision to terminate the contract of the Portuguese international was taken days after Fernabache failed to qualified for the group phase of the UEFA Champions League losing to Benfica over two legs.
The club wrote in a statement;
“Our Professional football first team’s head coach Jose Mourinho, who has been carrying out his duties starting from the 2024/25 season has parted ways with us. We thank him for his efforts for our team until today ahd wish him success in his future career.”
The 62-year-old was appointed at the Istanbul club in 2024 and oversaw a second-place finish in the Turkish Super Lig, 11 points behind champions Galatasaray. Fenerbahce also failed to make progress in the cup competitions after they were eliminated from the Turkish Cup at the quarter-final stage and exited the Europa League in the round of 16 to Rangers.
The news of Mourinho’s sack is coming following the rumours that Ruben Amorim might leave his role as the head coach of Manchester United following his poor start at the club to the 2025/26 season.
However, Mourinho will always be regarded as one of the best managers in football history following his success at Porto, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United.
