RG fired up for Eden Park duel

Springbok enforcer RG Snyman says nothing compares to the chance of taking down the All Blacks at Eden Park.

The epic Test carries extra spice because Snyman will also be locking horns with his Leinster teammate Jordie Barrett in the process.

MORE: History beckons for Boks in Auckland

Snyman, who spent last season alongside the All Black centre in Dublin, admitted that Saturday’s showdown in Auckland will have added significance after months of playing on the same side.

“We’ve had a nice season at Leinster and it was good to get to know him a little better,” said Snyman.

“He’s a great rugby player and meant a lot to us at Leinster, just as he does for the All Blacks. I’m looking forward to seeing him from the other side of the field again.”

But while there’s respect for his clubmate, Snyman was under no illusions about the scale of the challenge awaiting the Springboks at the home of New Zealand rugby.

“It’s the highest peak for any Springbok,” Snyman declared.

“To beat the All Blacks in New Zealand will always be special – even more so when it’s at Eden Park. It’s an unbelievable privilege to have the opportunity to end South Africa’s long winning drought here. But it’ll be a helluva tough task.”

KIRWAN: Boks stronger in big moments

The Boks haven’t tasted victory at Eden Park since 1937, with the venue becoming a graveyard for visiting teams. The All Blacks remain unbeaten there for over three decades, and Saturday’s clash has all the makings of another titanic struggle in rugby’s fiercest rivalry.
