Asenathi returns for Lions tour

Springbok prop Asenathi Ntlabakanye has been cleared to travel with the Lions to France and Wales.

The big tighthead was sidelined for last weekend’s EPCR Challenge Cup win over Lyon due to a minor hamstring issue.

The Lions begin their trip with an EPCR Challenge Cup clash against Perpignan before switching focus to the Vodacom URC for a meeting with the Ospreys in Swansea.

They are without flanker Ruan Venter, who is serving a four-match suspension. Flanker Siba Qoma, who was injured during the warm-up ahead of the Lyon match, has also been left behind, along with winger Kelly Mpeku as he continues to recover from a wrist injury.

Former Junior Boks Batho Hlekani, who made a big impression on his Lions debut last weekend, and scrumhalf Haashim Pead are set to gain valuable experience on tour.

The squad departs on Tuesday afternoon.
