Stilo Magolide Weighs In On Loatinover Pounds’ Features After “Pray 4 Pitori” Album Release. South African hip hop thrives on bold opinions, and Stilo Magolide has never been one to soften his stance. The seasoned rapper reignited industry debate during a recent appearance on The Sobering Podcast, where he delivered a striking mix of admiration and critique aimed at fast-rising star Loatinover Pounds.
Magolide hailed Pounds’ breakout hit “Sosh Plata” as one of the strongest hip hop records to emerge in recent years. At the same time, he challenged the impact of the rapper’s guest appearances, suggesting they fall short of the standard set by his solo work and capitalise on momentum rather than expanding it.
Known for his candid commentary and a career that stretches back to the early 2010s, Magolide approached the conversation with characteristic bluntness. Referencing Pounds’ 2024 album Pray 4 Pitori, he described the project as exceptional and proof of the artist’s depth, while drawing a clear line between the album’s strength and what he sees as weak feature performances.
“Sosh Plata is definitely one of the best hip hop songs that has come out in the past three years,” Magolide said. “But the feature stuff doesn’t reflect his capabilities. I listened to Pray 4 Pitori, and it’s so good. Then you hear the features, and it feels like a different story.”
He went on to clarify that his criticism was not directed at the album itself. According to Magolide, features should elevate an artist and help push their reach forward, something he believes has not happened consistently in Pounds’ collaborations.
“For me personally, if you listen to the boy’s album and then listen to the songs he’s featured on, none of those features are giving him legs,” he explained. “The album has context. ‘Sosh Plata’ has context. The features are drawing from his success instead of pushing it.”
Loatinover Pounds burst onto the scene in 2022 with “Sosh Plata,” a gritty street anthem featuring 25K and Thapelo Ghvra. The song’s raw storytelling and infectious hook quickly resonated, positioning him as one of Pitori’s most promising voices. That momentum carried into Pray 4 Pitori, released in September 2024, which earned a nomination for Best Hip Hop Album at SAMA31 in December 2025. The award ultimately went to 25K’s Pheli Makaveli, but Pounds responded with grace, expressing pride in the journey and the community behind the project.
