The hip-hop star recently revealed that he unknowingly shared an AI-created song, believing it to be the work of a promising new vocalist. The track, titled Suka, was credited to an artist named Rea Gopane. What initially felt like the discovery of a new voice quickly turned into a lesson about how advanced artificial intelligence has become.

“So yesterday I posted a song by an artist called Rea Gopane, ‘Suka,’ and it later came to my attention that the song was made by AI. I didn’t know,” Nyovest explained in a candid statement. Cassper Nyovest admitted that the situation was unsettling, even for someone at his level. “A lot of people were saying this is dangerous. Firstly, it’s dangerous for me, and I’m a professional musician,” he said.

For Nyovest, part of the magic of music lies in discovering raw talent and authentic stories. He believes AI threatens that organic process by creating convincing imitations that lack lived experience, yet sound polished enough to deceive listeners.

While he remains confident that established artists are unlikely to be replaced, Nyovest made it clear that newcomers face a tougher battle. “I don’t think it’s a threat to people who are established like me,” he said, noting that his personality and identity cannot be replicated.

However, he warned that up-and-coming artists may struggle to break through if AI can produce endless, high-quality music at speed. “I really see it becoming a problem for up-and-coming artists, trying to break into the market,” Cassper said.

He also raised concerns about how record labels could exploit the technology to cut costs. Nyovest suggested that companies might eventually favour AI over human artists to avoid contracts, royalties, and creative disagreements. In such a future, executives could simply generate music in the style of popular artists without involving real performers.

Cassper has built his career on authenticity, from his debut album Tsholofelo to sold-out stadium performances. His warning comes at a time when AI tools are advancing rapidly, prompting musicians around the world to question how creativity and ownership will be protected.
