The rapper took to X (formerly Twitter) yesterday with a brief yet powerful message that questions the usual measures of musical achievement. “Not every good song is a hit … and not every hit is a good song …” Flvme wrote.

Flvme has earned a reputation for his sharp lyrical style and genre-blending sounds, drawing inspiration from global stars like Lil Wayne and Travis Scott while making waves in South Africa’s trap hip-hop scene. Over the years, he has carved out a strong independent career with projects like his 2017 mixtape Clouds, the 2019 album CandyMan, D.O.A (Dead or Alive) in 2020, GERMANDER II in 2022, and NOTE TO SELF in 2023. His collaborations with big names, including A-Reece, Emtee, and Sjava, have further established his reputation.

This conversation comes on the heels of his August 2025 album release, BLVCK & WHiTE, which includes features from Die Mondez, 25K, Young Stunna, and Zoocci Coke Dope. Flvme’s message seems to reflect on the reality within the music industry where deeply meaningful songs do not always reach viral heights, while simpler tracks climb the charts driven by trends, streaming algorithms, and marketing strategies.

In addition, Flvme emphasised that it is not the artist’s responsibility to turn a song into a hit but rather that of the fans and consumers. “You guys turn songs into hits … not us,” he responded to a fan, making it clear that the audience ultimately shapes what succeeds.
