iFani Delivers Powerful Tribute At Bravo Le Roux’s Memorial in Khayelitsha. The South African hip-hop fraternity stood shoulder to shoulder in grief and gratitude as fans, friends, and fellow artists gathered to celebrate the life of Sinesipho Peter, known to the world as Bravo Le Roux.

Held on Thursday, 5 February 2026, at OR Tambo Hall in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, the memorial service became a deeply moving tribute to the Khayelitsha-born rapper, producer, and cultural torchbearer.
Bravo Le Roux passed away on 22 January 2026 in Switzerland at the age of 30, with his family later confirming suicide as the cause of death. The news sent shockwaves through the music industry and reignited urgent conversations around mental health, particularly within creative spaces.
What unfolded inside the packed hall was not only mourning, but also a celebration of a life that touched many. Through heartfelt tributes, shared memories, and live performances, Bravo’s influence was felt in every corner of the room. One of the most emotional moments came when veteran rapper and close collaborator iFani stepped onto the stage to perform their joint track “Makhwenkwe.”
Released in 2023, the song is a bold and honest Xhosa hip-hop anthem that speaks on loss, survival, industry pressures, and pride in township roots. As iFani delivered the hook and verses, the crowd rose to their feet, singing along in unison. What began as a performance quickly turned into a communal release, with voices echoing Bravo Le Roux’s fearless and unapologetic spirit.
The track carried added weight on the day. Bravo had once described “Makhwenkwe” as a reflection on life’s unavoidable hardships and a declaration of strength against forces that seek to silence or box in Xhosa rappers. Its message of brotherhood, resilience, and staying grounded resonated powerfully with mourners who saw the song as a mirror of Bravo’s journey and character.
Running from 3 pm until 9 pm, the memorial felt like a homecoming for his legacy. While the family continues efforts to bring his remains back from Switzerland, including appealing for assistance from the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, the focus of the day remained firmly on unity, music, and remembrance. Artists and friends shared stories of Bravo’s generosity, his commitment to uplifting emerging talent, and his unwavering pride in carrying Khayelitsha to global stages.
iFani’s performance stood as a defining highlight, capturing the bond between two artists who bridged generations in South African hip-hop. More than just a song, “Makhwenkwe” became a reminder of Bravo Le Roux’s voice, vision, and belief that true strength lies in authenticity.
As the evening came to an end, the hall rang with tears, applause, and chants of “Ta Bravo,” sealing the moment and affirming that Sinesipho Peter’s impact as a gifted creator, township ambassador, and trailblazer will live on.
Bravo Le Roux is survived by his wife, DJ Snab, their daughter, and a hip-hop nation united in grief and gratitude. May his soul rest in power.
