Usimamane Says He Will Follow Cassper Nyovest’s Path To Greatness. Rising Durban rap star Usimamane, born Omuhleumnguni Simamane, is making waves with his unfiltered confidence and big ambitions.

In a fiery Instagram Q&A with fans, the 22-year-old hinted at following in the footsteps of South African hip-hop heavyweight Cassper Nyovest, vowing to secure his spot among the greats, whether critics like it or not.
The conversation began when a fan using the handle “Buza” asked, “Do you really think you will be called one of the greats when it’s all said and done????” True to his reputation for bold honesty, Usimamane delivered a reply that has fans buzzing online.
“I’ll be like my big homie Cass, everyone knows he the greatest they hate to admit it,” he wrote. “I remember praying to be like him and one day I woke up the rap game was hating me and I was like god I see what you did there.

”

The post captured Usimamane‘s mix of humour, humility, and determination. By referencing “Cass,” a nod to Mahikeng-born Cassper Nyovest, Usimamane is aligning himself with one of South Africa’s most influential rappers. Nyovest, celebrated for hits like Doc Shebeleza and his entrepreneurial achievements, has earned both fame and criticism throughout his career, a duality Usimamane seems eager to embrace.
Usimamane first gained attention in 2024 with his breakout single Cheque, which went triple platinum in South Africa. His debut album, 20th: Days Before Maud, dropped in September 2024 and shattered Spotify records with over 332,000 streams on its second day. In June 2024, Apple Music named him the face of Rap Life Africa, a playlist spotlighting the continent’s top hip-hop talent.
Usimamane has a history of stirring the conversation. Just yesterday, he teased fans about potentially releasing new music on Friday, February 13, the same day as Tony Dayimane and Blxckie, asking, “Should I drop on Friday or let them lil boys shine?” The question has sparked speculation about rivalries in South African hip-hop, evoking the competitive energy of Nyovest’s famous battles with AKA.
