South African rapper Priddy Ugly, born Ricardo Moloi, has opened up about what many saw as a career-defining 2025, revealing that behind the scenes, he was intentionally slowing things down to focus on family and major life changes.
Speaking in a candid interview on SlikournOnlife, the acclaimed lyricist offered a perspective that caught many by surprise. When host Slikour remarked that he had enjoyed an incredible year, Priddy Ugly responded with honesty.
“You know what’s crazy about 2025? I took a break in 2025. Wifey was pregnant. We just got a new home, and I’ve been settling in. We’re trying to end off my last record label situation, so that I could start 2026 on a fresh slate. If anyone feels like 2025 was crazy, 2026 is gonna be hectic.”
While fans experienced a strong run of visibility and accolades, the rapper says much of his energy was directed toward personal milestones. His wife, actress and media personality Bontle Modiselle, welcomed their second child during the year. The pregnancy announcement earlier in 2025 sparked celebration across social media, along with the usual waves of online chatter.
Beyond expanding their family, the couple also stepped into a new season by moving into a new home. For Priddy Ugly, it marked a time to embrace fatherhood more intentionally and establish stability away from the pressures of the industry.
Professionally, he has also been tying up loose ends. The award-winning artist, who previously worked within structures such as Global African Sounds, is in the process of fulfilling past record-label commitments. His goal is to enter 2026 fully independent and strategically positioned.
The shift, he explains, is not only personal but also mental. “I felt like my whole life, I’ve been focused on my creative bag. I’m trying to really get more into my business bag.”
Despite calling it a break, Priddy Ugly’s presence throughout 2025 remained strong. Fresh off a South African Music Award win for Best Hip Hop Album and continued cultural relevance, many described his year as dominant. For the rapper, however, the real victory happened offstage.
Now, with a growing family, a new home, and a clean professional slate in sight, Priddy Ugly is setting the tone for what he promises will be an explosive 2026. If 2025 was about building foundations, the Pretoria-born star suggests the next chapter will be about expansion, ownership, and redefining his legacy in South African hip-hop.
