Where has Naas disappeared to?

Springbok legend Naas Botha and his family have reportedly left the country.

Netwerk24 reports that the Bothas have apparently moved to the USA, although details around their departure remain scarce.

Botha, 68, has not appeared on SuperSport for some time and is also no longer working at Hoërskool Eldoraigne in Centurion, where he had served as director of rugby since 2023.

Reports suggest the family may have settled in Kansas. Attempts to contact Botha and his wife Karen for comment have been unsuccessful.

DOBBO: Leave Beckham-like Sacha alone

Botha remains one of South Africa’s most celebrated rugby figures. The flyhalf played 28 Tests between 1980 and 1992 and became renowned for his match-winning kicking game.

After retiring from playing, he moved into coaching and broadcasting, becoming a familiar voice and face on SuperSport rugby coverage for decades.

The move also marks a return of sorts to the USA for the Botha family. In 1983, Naas famously had a trial with the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL.

Karen is also a former international athlete who represented South Africa in the long jump at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and had studied at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

The couple have three daughters.
