Crayon makes shocking allegations against Don Jazzy and Rema

Singer and producer Crayon has made shocking allegations against Don Jazzy, Rema, and Mavin Records in a series of posts on social media.

Nigerian Afropop singer Crayon, born Charles Chibueze Chukwu, has set the internet ablaze with a series of explosive posts on X (formerly Twitter) aimed at Don Jazzy, Rema and others, in what appears to be the most dramatic public rupture between an artist and Mavin Records in recent memory.

The 28-year-old Lagos-born singer, who first rose through the ranks of Mavin’s talent pipeline before officially signing to Blowtime Entertainment, an imprint linked to Mavin, in 2019, unleashed a barrage of cryptic and emotionally charged tweets targeting the label’s founder, Don Jazzy, its Chief Operating Officer, Tega Oghenejobo, and fellow Mavin star Rema.

Crayon opened his tirade with a confusing blend of affection and aggression, writing “Don jazzy na my boy!!!!!! Una dey maddddd!!?? Shayennnnn sharayyyyyy333,” before pivoting sharply to attack the COO directly, calling Oghenejobo “Tega highest criminal!!!!!!!!!” He then broadened his attack to the label itself, declaring “Mavin is going down!!!!!!” before taking aim at the label’s biggest star: “Rema for the next 100 years no feature. You stole my star from me. Yeah I took tha shiiiiii backkkkk hoeeeeerrrr!!!!! Snakkkkkkkeeeeeesssssssss.” In a further post, he also appeared to compare himself to his labelmate, writing, “I’m HYM!!!! Not REMA!!!! Niggaaaaa I’m 69 in Africa!!!!!!!.”

The outburst has not come entirely out of nowhere. The speculation intensified because Crayon’s recent song release appeared to lack strong support from Mavin’s promotional channels, prompting rumors that he could be pursuing a more independent path or even considering leaving the label. Fans also noted that the singer has been less active publicly since the death of his mother last year, suggesting that personal grief combined with industry pressures might be affecting him.

The tweets also appeared to coincide with what now looks like a deliberate career pivot. Crayon dropped his latest single “Baami,” notably not under the Mavin Records imprint that has been his home since 2019, but instead under a new outfit identified as “Olodum Ent.”

The single, produced by his frequent collaborator Ozedikus, arrived without the usual Mavin branding or promotion typically seen when artists from the label release new music Crayon also called for creative input for his new label, writing: “Any weird creatives that can come with OLODUM ENT FLAGGSSSSS!!!! Gets 500 million naira cash !!!!! With love WARAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!”
