Paul Roos rallied to beat Affies, while there were also notable victories for Paarl Boys’, Grey College, Grey High and Jeppe.
After overturning an early deficit in Stellenbosch, an intercept try by flyhalf Travis Pheiffer gave Paul Roos a 24-11 lead at the break.
Affies struck first after the restart and reduced the deficit to just one point with less than 20 minutes remaining. But Paul Roos then dug deep, scoring three late tries to seal a dominant 45-28 win.
Pheiffer finished with a 25-point haul.
Elsewhere in the Western Cape, Paarl Boys’ needed a stoppage-time try to beat Outeniqua 26-22, while Paarl Gim bounced back from last week’s defeat to Stellenberg with a 45-12 win against Durbanville. SACS beat Brackenfell 43-12 and Stellenberg thrashed Worcester Gimnasium 78-0.
In the Eastern Cape, Grey High beat Hudson Park 33-12, Kingswood crushed Cambridge 78-0, Pearson edged St Andrew’s College 22-17 and Framesby beat Selborne 24-15.
In Gauteng, Jeppe smashed St David’s Marist 62-14, KES beat St John’s 36-12, Garsfontein hammered Noordheuwel 41-3 and Pretoria Boys’ High beat St Stithians College 31-24.
In KwaZulu-Natal, Westville Boys’ High beat Maritzburg College 26-10.
In Bloemfontein, Grey College defeated Monument 31-15.
