Make-or-break round looms in SA Cup

Log-leaders Griquas aim to keep their unbeaten record intact, but face a tricky assignment in Gqeberha against a resurgent Eastern Province.

Round six could prove to be defining as teams chase semi-final places and Currie Cup qualification.

With log positions starting to take shape, every result now carries added weight and there’s little room left for error.

The round opens on Friday night in Nelspruit, where the Pumas host the Leopards. The defending champions arrive full of confidence after a dominant win over Border, a result that reinforced their status as one of the competition’s front-runners.

The Leopards, meanwhile, are still searching for consistency after a narrow defeat to EP and face a stern test on the road.

Saturday’s headline clash takes place in George, where the SWD Eagles host the Cheetahs in a fixture that could have a major impact on the top four.

Both sides remain firmly in the semi-final hunt, with SWD edging a thriller last weekend and the Cheetahs responding with an emphatic away win of their own. With recent meetings split between the teams, another tight contest is expected.

In Wellington, Boland will be desperate to halt a two-match slide when they take on Border. Despite back-to-back defeats, they remain well placed on the log and boast one of the most potent attacks in the competition.

Welkom hosts a pivotal showdown between the Griffons and Valke – two sides whose playoff hopes hang in the balance. With both teams coming off losses, defeat here could prove decisive.

The round concludes with the battle in PE where Griquas will look to keep up their standards against an EP side eager to build momentum following their first win last weekend.
