URC rules on Hooker incident

The citing officer’s finding on the controversial Ethan Hooker incident during the Vodacom URC clash in Swansea has been revealed.

At the end of the first half, Hooker sprinted from deep inside his own territory to score a try. Ospreys winger Luke Morgan, chasing in cover, dived onto the Sharks centre after the ball had been grounded, leaving the 23-year-old with a dislocated shoulder.

The Sharks subsequently requested a review of the incident.

However, source at the URC told IOL: “The citing officer involved reviewed the incident and found that it did not meet the red [or yellow] card threshold.

“There has been a lot of public discourse about the fixture, and while we certainly understand there are heightened opinions in these circumstances, we must respect the processes that are in place.”

SHIMMY: Late hit on Hooker a disgrace

The decision means Morgan is free to feature for the Ospreys in their next fixture against Cardiff.

Hooker, meanwhile, has returned to Durban, where medical specialists are assessing the injury.

He is expected to be sidelined for three to four months, dealing a blow to both the Sharks and Springboks.
