Leinster lose star for Lions clash

Head coach Leo Cullen has been dealt a major blow for the Vodacom URC meeting between Leinster and the Lions at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday.

The Leinster boss confirmed that Ireland centre Robbie Henshaw is ruled out due to injury. Henshaw was stretchered off early in the Investec Champions Cup semi-final win against Toulon following a heavy collision with Mikheil Shioshvili.

There was some good news for Cullen with veteran prop Tadhg Furlong and winger James Lowe both back in training.

Flanker Josh van der Flier, who also went off against Toulon with a head knock, is completing his return-to-play protocols and may be available for selection.

Saturday’s round 17 clash in Dublin pits the third-placed Lions against Leinster in fourth. Both teams have the same number of points (53), but the men from Johannesburg have a better points differential (90 compared to 67).

Ivan van Rooyen’s Pride, who are on a six-game winning streak in the competition, face Munster in their final league fixture next week ahead of the quarter-finals.
