The artist highlighted his unmatched impact in 2023, when he emerged as the most-streamed hip hop act and secured the number two spot on Spotify overall. He attributed this success to authentic releases rather than industry shortcuts. “Yeah, and the reason why I was the most-streamed hip hop artist in 2023, I was actually number two on Spotify.

It was because I was the one doing the tracks,” he explained. “Me, I dropped Cheque, and now they tried to use the hit bots to sign. They forget that I did 6 billion right in front of them before I signed with Gamma.”

Usimamane emphasised that he stood out among his peers during a pivotal moment for local talent. As the only young artist breaking through with major hits, he pointed to Cheque as a game changer that brought South African hip hop back to the global charts.

“I’m the only youngin. Since 2023, when we were coming up, I’m the only one with a hit song. Not even a hit song, two hits,” he said. “I was the only guy charting in the top 100. It was only Cheque and no other South African hip hop song.”

He drew a striking comparison to international heavyweights at their peak, placing his track alongside major releases. “It was like Americans, and that was like Drake and Kendrick, at their peak. I was just number two, where it was like Not Like Us, Cheque, and then Family Matters. That’s me,” Usimamane noted. Despite the achievement, he observed that recognition from the industry felt limited at the time.

The conversation turned to his full body of work, where Usimamane confidently declared his project, chasing Strings and Blings as a historic milestone. He stated that the album delivered the biggest debut numbers ever recorded for a South African hip hop release, surpassing 60 million streams. “I put the hip hop back on the charts for the first time, and have the biggest debut album ever in South African hip hop history, in terms of numbers. They are on what now? 60 million? Yeah. Over 60 million by Chasing Strings and Blings,” he affirmed.

Usimamane’s remarks underscore a narrative of solo grind, chart-pioneering, and commercial dominance in a competitive scene. His claims spotlight both the cultural revival of local hip hop and personal milestones that set a new benchmark for upcoming artists.
