What did Alonso say about his decision to join Chelsea?
The Spaniard expressed his delight at joining Chelsea and believes it was the best decision he made and he looks forward to making a change at the club.
He said,
“Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in world football and it fills me with immense pride to become manager of this great club. From my conversations with the ownership group and sporting leadership, it is clear we share the same ambition. We want to build a team capable of competing consistently at the highest level and fighting for trophies. There is great talent in the squad and huge potential at this football club and it will be my great honour to lead it. Now the focus is on hard work, building the right culture and winning trophies.”
Alonso is the ideal figure to rebuild stability, discipline, and identity after another turbulent campaign under the BlueCo ownership era.
Alonso gained recognition and respect as a coach at Bayer Leverkusen, where he guided the German side to a historic unbeaten Bundesliga title and domestic double in 2024 before taking charge at Real Madrid in 2025. Despite a difficult spell in Spain that ended earlier this year.
