Lions loosie goes under the knife

Lions utility forward Ruan Venter has confirmed that he’s on the mend after surgery to his injured knee.

The 23-year-old is set to be sidelined for up to nine months.

The one-cap Springbok posted on Instagram that surgery to repair his ACL, MCL and meniscus was successful.

“Extremely disappointed to end my season like this. Difficult to understand why but I know that God has a bigger plan. Very thankful to have undergone successful surgery and I can’t wait to get this journey started. This is only the beginning!”

Venter departed early in the Lions’ 31-7 Vodacom URC defeat to Leinster at the Aviva Stadium clutching his right knee.

He has been one of the Lions’ standout performers this season, delivering impressive all-round displays at both blindside flank and lock that would not have escaped the Springbok selectors’ attention.

Venter was building momentum towards adding to his solitary Bok cap, with the Springboks’ season kicking off against the Barbarians in Gqeberha on 20 June.
