Leinster ‘throwing everything’ into Lions clash

Prop Andrew Porter says Leinster are determined to defend their Vodacom URC title after another painful Investec Champions Cup final defeat.

The Irish giants go into Saturday’s URC quarter-final against the Lions at the Aviva Stadium on the back of a crushing 41-19 loss to Bordeaux Bègles in Bilbao.

It was Leinster’s fifth Champions Cup final loss since last winning the trophy in 2017-18.

“It was obviously tough. Tough reviewing needs to be done,” Porter admitted.

But the 30-year-old said there was no time for self-pity as Leinster turn their attention back to the URC, with a home semi-final against the Stormers or Cardiff awaiting should they beat the Lions.

“We’re lucky that we still have something to play for. We’re throwing everything into it this weekend, and there’s still a trophy to be won,” he said.

“We’re leaving no stone unturned this week. We know it’ll be a tough game, but we’re ready to flip the page.

“We want to have something to celebrate. That [URC trophy] is what we’re chasing.”
