Stormers’ Khan relishing playoff test

Stormers scrumhalf Imad Khan is embracing the pressure of playoff rugby ahead of Saturday’s Vodacom URC quarter-final against Cardiff at Cape Town Stadium.

The 22-year-old is in line to start in the injury absence of Springbok veteran Cobus Reinach and form a key playmaking combination with Springbok star Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu.

When asked at Stormers training on Wednesday if he was feeling the pressure, Khan said:  “It’s more of an exciting thing for me and taking the moment in, more than calling it pressure.

“It is so much fun to be playing with your mates and throwing a ball around. Yes, there is pressure, but I am enjoying it, and that is what is driving me.”

Having featured prominently in recent weeks, Khan is set for the biggest match of his career as the Stormers look to book a semi-final against Leinster or the Lions.

Khan, who started the last two tour games against Ulster and Cardiff in Reinach’s absence, said he was learning from others.

“I try to grab a lot of things from the players around me. Cobus is a world-class player and Stef [Stefan Ungerer] is also very experienced,” he said. “With Dewies [Dewald Duvenage], I work a lot around the technical side of being a scrumhalf.

“They teach me a lot of things, and we are heading into the playoffs now, so it’s about driving the team.

“It’s really cool to pick up different things from the world-class players around me.

“Hopefully, I can continue enjoying my rugby, which takes the pressure off.”
