The Blitzboks saw off a fierce challenge from Argentina to set up a cup final against Australia at the SVNS World Championship in Valladolid on Sunday.
South Africa fought back from 7-5 down at half-time to win 19-7.
The Blitzboks will play Australia, who scored late to pip Fiji 21-14, in the final at 4:26pm (SA time).
The in-form Sebastiaan Jobb stretched to dot down in the right corner to get the Blitzboks on the scoreboard first in their semi-final.
But Argentina, who enjoyed enjoyed massive support at the Estadio Jose Zorrilla, hit right back through Santiago Vera Feld and he landed the conversion to give the South Americans a 7-5 lead.
Blitzboks playmaker Selvyn Davids then broke through from inside his half and looked odds on to score, but was hauled down with a last-gasp tackle.

Early in the second half, Quewin Nortje broke through, but the Argentinian defence hauled him down with the tryline in sight.
However, the Blitzboks were not to be denied, as they capitalised on a lineout steal, before Ricardo Duarttee danced through the defence to score a brilliant solo try. He converted to put South Africa ahead 12-7 with two minutes to go.
Ryan Oosthuizen then sealed the game with a converted try as the Blitzboks took another step towards adding the World Championship to the regular-season series title.
