Bok prop dominates Bath awards night

Thomas du Toit’s final season at Bath is ending on a high after the Springbok prop completed a clean sweep of the club’s major individual awards.

The 31-year-old was named Forward of the Year, Supporters’ Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year at Bath’s annual awards evening, underlining the impact he has made since joining the English club from the Sharks in 2023.

Du Toit has featured in 21 matches this season and become a key figure in Bath’s powerful forward pack, often providing a decisive impact off the bench as part of the club’s renowned “Bath Bomb” replacement unit.

The triple award haul comes ahead of his return to Durban next season, with the Sharks securing the services of the experienced front-rower after two successful years in England.

While his club future lies back in South Africa, Du Toit remains determined to add further chapters to his Springbok career.

Speaking recently on The Good, The Bad and The Rugby podcast, the World Cup winner admitted his Test journey has not always been straightforward.

“It’s every Springbok’s dream to play as many games as they possibly can for the Springboks,” said Du Toit.

“The reality is I’ve been in this generation of Springboks players that have just been the best that South Africa has ever produced.”

THOMAS THE TANK: Bok legend fuelled my fire

Having competed with the likes of Ox Nché, Frans Malherbe, Steven Kitshoff and Wilco Louw for a Bok jersey, Du Toit said his focus has always remained the same.

“My philosophy is serving the team the best way I possibly can by working unbelievably hard,” he said.

“If I am genuinely working as hard as I can, giving everything and doing my role right, hopefully I can serve the team that way.”
