Nasty C Reveals Why “Selfish” Is His Current Favourite Track on FREE Album. South African rap star Nasty C has revealed that “Selfish” is currently his favourite song on his latest project, FREE, offering fans insight into the creative details that make the track stand out for him.
The rapper shared his thoughts during an interview with GQ South Africa following his feature on the magazine’s June/July issue cover. Reflecting on the album, Nasty C explained that while his favourite track changes over time, “Selfish” is the song he finds himself returning to most at the moment.
“My favourite song on FREE? It changes, you know, but currently, it’s ‘Selfish,’” he said.
While he praised the song’s message, Nasty C noted that its production and overall sonic quality are what truly captivate him. “I just really like the sonics of it, the message too, for sure, but like the sonics of it,” he explained.
The award-winning artist highlighted the track’s dynamic arrangement, pointing to the contrast between densely layered sections and more stripped-back moments as a key reason for his admiration.
“There’s a lot of dynamics across the whole thing. Some parts are super stacked, some parts are just the lead with no ad-libs,” he said.
Known for his hands-on approach to music-making, Nasty C also revealed that he pays close attention to the technical aspects of recording and production.
“I’m a nerd when it comes to the engineering and arrangement of songs, too,” he added.
