Blitzboks bounce back in Bordeaux

The Blitzboks cruised past Kenya in the SVNS World Championship tournament in Bordeaux on Friday to remain in semi-final contention.

After suffering a 19-14 extra-time defeat to Great Britain earlier in the day, South Africa went into their second pool match under pressure.

But a dominant 26-5 win against their African rivals took them above GB on points difference into second place in Pool A, with unbeaten Fiji on top.

The Blitzboks will face Fiji in their final pool match on Saturday (11:06am SA time).

It took South Africa two minutes to open the scoring when Tristan Leyds’ long pass found Shilton van Wyk, who threw a dummy before bursting between two Kenyan defenders.

After a scrappy period of play, Van Wyk grabbed his second and Ricardo Duarttee again added the extras to make it 14-0 at the break.

Two quick-fire second-half tries from Quewin Nortje put the result beyond doubt, before George Ooro Angeyo scored a consolation try for Kenya.
