With Tony Brown joining the All Blacks in 2028, should the Springboks have held him to his contract, which expires after the 2027 World Cup, or released him now?
The Bok attack coach has signed a two-year deal with NZ Rugby and will return to New Zealand after next year’s global showpiece in Australia.
However, before then, he will coach the Boks against the All Blacks in the blockbuster four-Test Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series. The Boks are also likely to come up against the All Blacks in the 2027 World Cup quarter-finals.

“Right now, I am fully committed to the Springboks,” Brown said in an SA Rugby press release on Sunday night. “What we are building and trying to achieve as a team over the next two years is my only focus.”
Bok coach Rassie Erasmus said he was happy for Brown’s future to be clarified now. However, the timing of the announcement has been questioned, with former All Blacks flyhalf Stephen Donald saying it appeared to be a ‘power play’ by NZ Rugby.
