Saffas bolster Baa-Baas for Bok clash

Three South Africans have been included in the Barbarians match 23 for Saturday’s encounter against the Springboks in Gqeberha.

Stormers and Springbok fullback Warrick Gelant reunites with former schoolmate Duhan van der Merwe, who wears the No 11 jersey, while Stormers prop Oli Kebble is among the replacements.

The Baa-Baas will be captained by ex-All Blacks scrumhalf TJ Perenara.

Having represented the famous invitational club against Fiji in 2013, Perenara partners Toulon and Argentina flyhalf Tomas Albornoz, with Munster’s Alex Nankivell and France international Virimi Vakatawa in midfield.

Gelant and Van der Merwe are joined in the back three by Wallabies wing Andrew Kellaway.

Gloucester’s Argentinian Mayco Vivas, Dragons and Wales hooker Elliot Dee and Edinburgh and Scotland tighthead D’Arcy Rae form the front row, with the Western Force and Los Pumas’ Franco Molina and Bayonne’s Alex in the second row.

Harlequins and Argentina stalwart Guido Petti and Panasonic Wild Knights’ Lachlan Boshier are on the flanks with Samoa’s Miracle Fai’ilagi at No 8.

There is a strong South American flavour to the bench with Los Pumas’ Lionel Oviedo and Pedro Delgado named alongside Uraguay’s Santiago Arata.

“We have embraced the Barbarians spirit and tradition this week, coming together as a group and enjoying each other’s company in Cape Town.

“It’s a team packed with talent, guys who have come from all over the world and have a great chance to showcase their ability in Port Elizabeth.
