James Slipper’s international career may not be over after all.
The veteran Wallabies prop is reportedly set to be recalled to Australia’s squad for next month’s Tests against Ireland, France and Italy, less than a year after bringing the curtain down on a remarkable Test career.
Slipper retired from international rugby following his 151st appearance against New Zealand last October, receiving an emotional farewell after becoming Australia’s most-capped player.

But a standout Super Rugby campaign and a growing injury crisis in the Wallabies front row appear to have changed the picture.
The 37-year-old admitted he had even caught himself off-guard with his form this season.
“It came down to the fact that I surprised myself with how well I played this year,” Slipper told Australian media.
“I know I am not the best prop running around, but I still felt I was moving well. I did not set out at the start of the year to make another Wallabies squad.”
A return to the international fold would also reignite hopes of an extraordinary fifth Rugby World Cup appearance when Australia hosts the tournament in 2027.
While Slipper insists selection is far from guaranteed, he has not ruled out extending his career if he believes he can still contribute.
“It is similar to this year. I have put myself in a position where I feel I have played well enough to still contribute to the Wallabies.
“Even when I retired, I did so with the team in mind. If there is a reason for me to be available for the World Cup, I will put my hand up.”

The loosehead stressed that any future involvement would have to be earned.
“I need to earn it, I need to be playing well, and I must be a better option than the other looseheads in the country at the time.”
Should he make it to the 2027 tournament, Slipper would become the first Australian to appear at five Rugby World Cups and only the fourth player in history to achieve the feat.
