Emtee Claps Back After Ex Global Weighs In On His Personal Struggles. South African hip-hop has once again found itself in the middle of a heated social media showdown, with Emtee and Ex Global trading words in a public exchange that has set timelines buzzing.

The drama unfolded shortly after reports emerged that Emtee, born Mthembeni Ndevu, was granted R1,000 bail following an overnight stay at the Midrand Police Station. The rapper’s arrest was allegedly linked to a breach of a 2023 protection order obtained by his wife, Nicole Chinsamy, adding another headline to a period marked by personal and legal turbulence.
As discussions around the incident gained momentum online, Ex Global decided to weigh in. Posting on X, the rapper shared his thoughts on artists, business, and the company they keep.
“Personally, I don’t want to work with anyone who smokes weed or drinks alcohol frequently because they don’t understand business, they’re stubborn and always think they know better. But Emtee has a lot of potential. He just has to let go of everyone around him and not look back. They’ve all failed him and can’t protect him.”
While some interpreted the comments as constructive criticism, Emtee clearly saw things differently.
Never one to stay silent when his name enters the conversation, the “Roll Up” hitmaker fired back with a blunt response.
“You don’t know me gang. Ex Global carry on playin with my name. Met u once in my life & you tweeting about me like u know. I’m not Flame, I’m not Reece. Khabunye. You don’t scare me.”
The message carried all the hallmarks of classic Emtee: direct, unapologetic and packed with street-flavoured authenticity. By distancing himself from comparisons to Flame and A-Reece, Emtee made it clear that he refuses to be grouped into narratives created by people he barely knows.
For years, Emtee has remained one of the most influential figures in South African rap. Rising from Matatiele before making his mark in Soweto, he helped shape the African Trap Music movement and built a loyal fanbase through raw storytelling and chart-topping records. Yet alongside the success has come a steady stream of controversies, label disputes and public scrutiny.
Ex Global’s comments touched on familiar talking points that continue to follow Emtee throughout his career: questions about accountability, the influence of those around him and the choices that have shaped his journey. Unsurprisingly, fans were split. Some praised Ex Global for offering what they viewed as tough love, while others defended Emtee, arguing that a rap veteran of his stature deserves respect rather than public analysis.
