Cheetahs investing in future stars

The Cheetahs have strengthened their long-term player pathway after securing a group of promising young talents from schools and university rugby.

Hooker Myburg Jacobs joins the Bloemfontein outfit from Trio High School in Kroonstad, while wing Jade Muller and centre Winton Abrahams have earned places in the Cheetahs system after impressing for the Central University of Technology.

The biggest intake comes from Grey College, with Eddie Mabena, O’Ryan Kleyn, Christoff Crous and Chris Nieuwoudt all signing junior contracts as they begin the next step in their rugby careers.

Hooker Mahlatze Memeza also joins the Cheetahs from Jeppe High School, adding further depth to the union’s junior ranks.

The latest signings underline the Cheetahs’ continued investment in developing home-grown talent, with the union aiming to produce more players capable of progressing into the senior squad.

The intake also reinforces the strong relationship between the Cheetahs and Grey College, which has produced a steady stream of professional players for the Free State union over the years.
