Saffa reaches major Scotland milestone

Saturday’s Nations Championship clash with Argentina in Cordoba will be a special occasion for one of Scotland’s adopted South Africans.

Former Bulls prop Pierre Schoeman is set to earn his 50th Scotland cap after being named in Gregor Townsend’s starting XV. Lock Scott Cummings will also reach the landmark.

Schoeman, who made his Scotland debut against Tonga in 2021, packs down alongside hooker Ewan Ashman and tighthead Elliot Millar Mills in the front row.

Cummings partners veteran Jonny Gray in the second row, while Matt Fagerson, Rory Darge and Jack Dempsey retain their places in an unchanged loose trio from Scotland’s final Six Nations match.

Ben White starts at scrumhalf with Tom Jordan at flyhalf, while captain Sione Tuipulotu combines with Rory Hutchinson in midfield.

An all-Glasgow Warriors back three sees Kyle Steyn and Jamie Dobie selected on the wings, with Kyle Rowe at fullback.

WIN two tickets to Springboks vs England

There could be a debut for Glasgow hooker Gregor Hiddleston, who has been named on the bench.

Experienced tighthead Zander Fagerson is also among the replacements, while Alex Samuel returns to the match 23 after last featuring against Tonga in November.

Gregor Brown and George Horne are back from injury, Fergus Burke is included a year after making his first Scotland start on tour, and Darcy Graham completes the 23.

There is no room for South African wing Duhan van der Merwe, who recently started for the Barbarians against the Springboks.

After opening their account against Argentina, Scotland will travel to South Africa to face the Springboks in Pretoria before returning home to host Fiji.

SCOTLAND – 15 Kyle Rowe, 14 Kyle Steyn, 13 Rory Hutchinson, 12 Sione Tuipulotu (c), 11 Jamie Dobie, 10 Tom Jordan, 9 Ben White, 8 Jack Dempsey, 7 Rory Darge, 6 Matt Fagerson, 5 Scott Cummings, 4 Jonny Gray, 3 Elliot Millar Mills, 2 Ewan Ashman, 1 Pierre Schoeman.
