Cassper Opens Up About Why He Won’t Enter South African Politics

The award-winning rapper shared his views during a conversation on social media after a user suggested that he return to his community and serve as a ward councillor, arguing that serving people should take precedence over bureaucracy.

Responding candidly, Cassper explained why he has no intention of pursuing a political career.

“Ward councillors in SA are killed for a salary of 35k ma g. I would never go into politics. I wanna make an impact without ‘threatening’ any power mongers. I want to find problems I can try aid or eradicate. There’s 1 I just learnt about & I wanna learn more.”

His comments reflect concerns about the risks faced by many local government officials in South Africa, where councillors have often become targets of politically motivated violence. While acknowledging the importance of public service, Cassper suggested that the personal dangers attached to the role make it an avenue he is unwilling to pursue.

Instead, the Doc Shebeleza hitmaker says he is focused on finding practical ways to improve lives outside government structures. He hinted that he has recently discovered a social issue that has captured his attention and plans to learn more before deciding how he can contribute, although he did not reveal what the issue is.

Over the years, Cassper has built a reputation that extends beyond music. Alongside his chart-topping success, sold-out events and business ventures, he has consistently positioned himself as someone interested in creating opportunities and inspiring young South Africans. His latest remarks suggest that his desire to make a difference remains strong, even if it will not come through elected office.

His stance also taps into a broader national conversation about political violence, public accountability and the challenges faced by grassroots leaders. Rather than seeking political power, Cassper believes his influence, resources, and entrepreneurial experience can be used to solve problems without becoming part of the country’s often volatile political landscape.

Although politics is off the table, Cassper’s message leaves little doubt that he still wants to contribute to South Africa’s future. For the rapper, meaningful change does not require holding public office. Instead, he believes lasting impact can be achieved by identifying real problems, working with communities and using his platform to drive solutions on his own terms.
