Suspended Junior Bok free to play

A Junior Springbok star has been cleared of foul play on the eve of the defending champions’ Junior World Championship final clash against France in Tbilisi.

Fullback Luan Giliomee’s red card from South Africa’s semi-final win over England on Monday has been dismissed. He was sent off for aerial contact with opposite number George Pearson.

A three-person disciplinary panel including former Springbok wing Stefan Terblanche reviewed Giliomee’s dismissal and actions.

“In respect of the red card issued to Luan Giliomee, the FPRC decided to refer the matter to a disciplinary committee for a full hearing, which took place on Thursday, 16 July, 2026,” World Rugby stated.

TEAM: Junior Boks back Felix for final

“The committee was chaired by Helen Morgan [New Zealand], joined by former players Stefan Terblanche [South Africa] and Christopher Morgan [Wales].

“Having considered all available evidence and the player’s submissions, the committee decided that the incident did not involve foul play and therefore they decided to dismiss the red card.

“The player is free to play with immediate effect.”

However, Alzeadon Felix was picked at 15 for the Junior Boks due to Giliomee’s initial suspension, as one of three changes by coach Kevin Foote for Saturday’s decider at the Mikheil Meskhi Stadium (kick-off 6:30pm).
