Captain Pieter-Steph du Toit believes the Springboks’ latest crop of Test debutants have shown they belong in the national set-up.
Tighthead prop Carlü Sadie, lock Ruben van Heerden, flyhalf Vusi Moyo and right wing Jaco Williams will all earn their first Test caps when the Springboks face Wales in Saturday’s Nations Championship clash at Kings Park.
They join a growing list of new faces to be introduced by Rassie Erasmus this season as the world champions continue to build squad depth.
SCHALK: Vusi, Bok bench to cause problems
According to Du Toit, what has impressed the senior players most is how quickly the newcomers have adapted to the Springboks’ demanding environment.
“The young guys who’ve joined us so far this season have all been open-minded,” he said.
“They really adapt quite fast to the way we want to play and how things are done here, how the system works and what’s expected of them.
“If you look at the intensity and excitement they bring, it’s good for us to see how excited and hungry they are to put that jersey on.”
RANKINGS: How strong is Boks’ grip on top spot?
With Kings Park set to provide a fitting backdrop for their Test bows, Du Toit expects the debutants to embrace the occasion rather than be overawed by it.
“For them to get to play at Kings Park will be a huge honour and privilege for them and I’m sure they’ll go out and give everything they have.”
