Italy prop Marco Riccioni will miss two club matches after receiving one of the most unusual red cards of the Nations Championship.
The Perpignan powerhouse, who was not part of Italy’s match-day squad, was sent off during Saturday’s 57-10 defeat to Australia after becoming involved in a touchline scuffle.
Dressed in a tracksuit, Riccioni left the dugout when tempers flared near the sideline and appeared to throw a punch before being shown a red card.

SANZAAR’s foul play review committee found Riccioni guilty of “conduct contrary to the spirit of good sportsmanship” and handed him a four-match suspension, which was reduced to two after he admitted his actions warranted a red card.
The committee also took into account his disciplinary record, conduct and remorse in reducing the sanction.
Riccioni will now miss Perpignan’s upcoming fixtures against Biarritz and Bath.
Italy’s next Nations Championship assignment comes against the Springboks in Turin on 7 November, although the suspension will not affect his international availability.
