Stormers close door on Doogz, eye rising star

The Stormers have decided not to make a formal offer to Bok centre Damian de Allende.

Instead, the club is reportedly looking to lure one of the country’s biggest prospects to the Cape.

According to Rapport, the Stormers have opted against pursuing a move for De Allende despite lengthy discussions over a possible return to the Mother city. De Allende, 34, is under contract at Japanse side Panasonic Wild Knights until June 2027 and is one of several Springboks considering a return to South Africa.

His links to the Cape and the Stormers’ need for midfield cover following Dan du Plessis’ move to Bordeaux, coupled with uncertainty surrounding Ruhan Nel’s future, had fuelled speculation about a homecoming.

But a source told Rapport the Cape franchise is sticking to its recruitment strategy.

“The Stormers’ strategy is not to make an offer to every Springbok or star player who wants to return to Cape Town. That would be unaffordable.”

The source added that while the Stormers continue to invest heavily in their junior structures, they remain willing to recruit when they identify genuine needs or exceptional value in the market.

The arrivals of Siya Kolisi, Cheslin Kolbe and Wilco Louw have already placed pressure on the club’s salary budget.

Meanwhile, the Stormers are reportedly monitoring Sharks centre Jurenzo Julius.

The 22-year-old Paul Roos old boy, who is contracted in Durban until June next year, is understood to be weighing up his future in search of more regular opportunities.
