Winger Jayden Bantom ran in a hat-trick of tries as the Boland Cavaliers crushed Cape rivals the Stormers XXIII in Wellington on Sunday.
Boland remain unbeaten after two rounds of the Currie Cup following a convincing six-try, 41-3 win, while the Stormers suffered a first defeat of the campaign.
The Cavaliers made a lively start, feeding off the energy of a vocal home crowd at Boland Stadium. It took the hosts less than three minutes to strike, with fullback Domenic Smit sniping over for the opening try.
Boland doubled their advantage a few minutes later when winger Xavier Mitchell finished off a well-worked move after some slick handling. Bantom, who had been handed the goal-kicking duties, was unable to convert either try but added three points with a penalty shortly before half-time.
The Stormers XXIII battled to build any attacking momentum in an error-strewn first half, with their only points coming from flyhalf Dominic Malgas’ 20th-minute penalty.

The Cavaliers went straight on the attack at the resumption of the second half, and broke the Stormers line for a third time courtesy of a try by hooker Joshua Eras. Bantom was successful with the conversion.
The bonus point was wrapped up for Boland within 55 minutes when Bantom swan-dived over the line. He struck the conversion sweetly to extend the hosts’ lead to 24 points.
But Bantom wasn’t done there. He rounded off a beautiful backline move and then sealed the win with his hat-trick.

The Stormers XXIII will look to make amends against the Sharks XV in Cape Town on Saturday, while the Cavaliers have another Sunday home fixture against the Pumas.
