A key Cheetahs player will be sidelined for around nine months after undergoing knee surgery.
Versatile centre Munier Hartzenberg was forced off the field after just 25 minutes of the Cheetahs’ 43-21 Currie Cup victory over the Sharks XV in Bloemfontein last Friday following a heavy tackle that injured his right knee.
Cheetahs coach Frans Steyn confirmed the 28-year-old had gone under the knife on Tuesday.
It is another cruel setback for Hartzenberg, whose 2025 campaign was also wrecked by injury.

Steyn believes the Cheetahs have enough depth in midfield to cover the loss.
“Munier will definitely be missed, he’s a key guy in the backline at the moment,” he said.
“But we still have Skolie [Carel-Jan Coetzee], Jooste Nel and De-an Ackermann. It’s an opportunity for somebody else to put their hand up and show why they’re a Cheetah.”
Steyn’s side faces defending champions Griquas in Kimberley on Friday.
