A passionate All Blacks supporter from the Western Cape has legally changed his name to honour New Zealand and Maori culture.
Wellington-born Winston Small has changed his name to Winitana Mororiki, with the new identity already appearing on his social media accounts while he awaits an updated South African ID document.
“I’ve been a huge New Zealand supporter since I was a child. My parents were both full-blooded New Zealand supporters,” the 31-year-old, who works as a chief personnel officer in the Western Cape Department of Health, told Rapport.

His father, Willie Small, has since switched allegiances and now supports the Springboks after joining SA Rugby’s executive council in 2024.
That has created plenty of banter at home, especially with the Boks winning five of their last six Tests against their arch-rivals.
“My dad always calls me when the Boks beat the All Blacks and asks if I’ve cried again,” Mororiki said. “He’s been getting the better of me a bit lately, because our team is going through a dip.”
