Boland Cavaliers coach Hawies Fourie believes his side paid the price for losing focus after their emphatic win over the Stormers XXIII.
The Cavaliers slipped to a 20-15 defeat against the Pumas in Wellington on Sunday, just a week after thrashing the Stormers 41-3.
Fourie admitted he had sensed a drop in intensity leading up to the game.
“I had been concerned since the victory over the Stormers,” Fourie said as quoted by Netwerk24. “It felt to me as though many of the players still had their minds on that match, and that cost us dearly. As coaches, we had warned the team about this beforehand.”

The Cavaliers were poor at the lineout and repeatedly failed to convert attacking opportunities into points.
“The possession we lost in the lineouts often occurred within five to 10 metres of the Pumas’ tryline. It was a combination of us perhaps executing the wrong options and good contestation by the Pumas,” said Fourie.

“You need maturity in this competition,” he added. “It’s a shortened tournament, and you can’t afford to lose a home game – which is what we’ve just done.”
Fourth-placed Boland now travel to Durban to face the Sharks XV on Saturday.
