Rugby brawlers suspended

Noordvaal Cup organisers have outlined the disciplinary process following the fight that led to Saturday’s Menlopark-EG Jansen clash being abandoned in Pretoria.

The match was called off after a brawl involving EG Jansen players and Menlopark old boys. Parents also reportedly became involved in the incident.

“Pending the outcome of the disciplinary process, all players and persons identified as actively involved in the incident have been placed on immediate precautionary suspension,” the Noordvaal committee said in a statement.

“They may not participate in or attend any remaining competition matches in an official capacity until the matter has been finalised.

“This suspension is a precautionary measure and does not constitute a finding of guilt.”

The committee confirmed that the remainder of the Noordvaal Cup would continue as scheduled while the matter is investigated.

Both schools have been instructed to submit reports, witness statements, player statements and any other supporting evidence.

“The matter will then proceed through a formal disciplinary process conducted in accordance with the principles of natural justice and the South African Rugby Union disciplinary regulations,” the statement read.

“Formal disciplinary hearings are expected during the week commencing 17 August 2026, with written outcomes to be communicated after the conclusion of the hearings.”

The committee added that any sanctions imposed by the disciplinary panel would remain subject to Saru’s authority, with the governing body able to review, amend, increase or reduce penalties in accordance with its regulations.
