iFani Reveals the Behind-the-Scenes Genius Who Helped Shape “Msebenzi Wam” Mixtape. South African hip-hop veteran iFani is making sure the man behind the microphone gets his flowers, and his tribute to recording engineer De Vise is every bit as entertaining as the stories behind their studio sessions.
Taking to Instagram, iFani gave fans an inside look at the creative force responsible for bringing his latest mixtape, Msebenzi Wam, to life, calling De Vise, who is known online as @vise_melo_metro, “the only recording engineer that gets me.”
According to iFani, De Vise recorded every song on the eight-track project, with the engineer also responsible for the additional ad-libs heard throughout the mixtape. The only exception was the memorable “futsek” on track seven, “Bendingayaz”, which was delivered by @leepearlmdashe_9.
But while the praise was serious, iFani could not resist giving fans a hilarious glimpse into what working with De Vise actually looks like.
The rapper joked about the engineer’s unique relationship with time, recalling how a 9 am studio start could easily become a 2 pm arrival, accompanied by the revelation that De Vise had not slept.
Then there is the Uber drama.
According to iFani’s colourful account, getting to the studio can become an adventure of its own, involving a supposedly drunk Uber driver, a cancelled trip and, somehow, a spontaneous scone run.
The problem? De Vise apparently has no intention of sharing.
“Akho lekese angayityiyo plus nezi ndizifihlele abantwana,” iFani wrote, joking that there is seemingly no sweet De Vise will leave untouched, including treats deliberately hidden away for the children.
Behind all the jokes, however, sits a serious acknowledgement of just how important De Vise has been to the project.
“But he’s the BEST. Without him, there would be no mixtape 
. I owe him a milli. Manyhani,” iFani wrote.
The engineer’s contribution to Msebenzi Wam extends well beyond recording vocals. iFani revealed that De Vise produced “West Side” and the first half of the title track, “Msebenzi Wam”. He also arranged “Kwakhe Kwanje Phi Na” and “Into Zomhlaba”, while even helping the rapper finish what appears to be a personal studio ritual referenced with the 
emojis.
De Vise also had the final word, responding with his own playful message: “De Vise: yo blu tus De Vise is e connec tedi 
suck sess fully.”
Released at the end of July 2026, Msebenzi Wam, meaning “My Work”, features Csana, Snymaan, Vuyo Manyike and Vee Sholo across eight tracks.
The project carries iFani’s trademark approach to lyricism and storytelling, with songs including “West Side”, “Bendingayaz”, “Into Zomhlaba” and the two-part title track forming part of the mixtape’s creative landscape.
For iFani, however, the project is about more than what listeners hear through their headphones. His tribute shines a light on the often-overlooked engineers who help turn ideas, performances and raw studio takes into finished records.
De Vise might arrive at the studio hours after the agreed call time, eat the scones meant for the kids and turn a simple Uber trip into a story of its own, but if iFani’s praise is anything to go by, the engineer’s work speaks louder than the chaos.
And this time, iFani wants everyone to know exactly who helped make Msebenzi Wam possible.
