Sol Phenduka Finds Beauty In iFani’s Unfiltered ‘Msebenzi Wam’ Mixtape. South African media personality Sol Phenduka has thrown his weight behind iFani’s latest project, Msebenzi Wam, praising the mixtape for its vulnerability, authenticity and unapologetic approach to music.

The Podcast and Chill with MacG co-host took to X early on Wednesday, 12 August, to share his thoughts after spending time with the project. His verdict was simple but emphatic.
“A beautiful, brutally honest and vulnerable piece of work. I’m repeating the album. It’s beautiful. Not even chasing hits. Just expression,” Phenduka wrote.
Coming from a personality known for his outspoken views and deep appreciation for music, the endorsement highlights what makes Msebenzi Wam stand out. Rather than measuring its success through potential radio hits or commercial appeal, Phenduka believes iFani has created a project driven by something far more personal: expression.
Released on 31 July, the eight-track mixtape represents another chapter in the career of the Xhosa rapper, born Mzayifani Mzondeleli Boltina and affectionately known as iMfene. From the beginning, iFani made it clear that Msebenzi Wam was not designed to play it safe.
The mixtape features “West Side,” “Corrections,” the two-part “Msebenzi Wam,” “Kwakhe Kwanje Phi Na” featuring Csana and Snymaan, “Ndivuselele” featuring Vuyo Manyike, “Bendingayaz” and “Into Zomhlaba” featuring Vee Sholo.
Across the project, iFani leans into a more introspective side of his artistry. The darker aesthetic surrounding the release complements the personal nature of the music, while his Xhosa lyricism remains central to its identity.
Msebenzi Wam also arrives at an interesting point in iFani’s career. Following renewed attention around his classic hit “Shake” and its 2026 remix, the rapper has once again placed the spotlight on his own artistry. This time, however, the focus is less on nostalgia and more on where he is creatively today.
The project reflects an artist concerned with growth, purpose and sharpening his craft, with iFani continuing his journey under the Asanda Empires banner.
As the mixtape continues to find its audience, Phenduka’s reaction adds another layer to the conversation around the release. In an era where artists are often encouraged to chase viral moments, streaming numbers and instant gratification, Msebenzi Wam appears to be taking a different route.
